Wow! And so we come to the end of May.

We’re almost halfway through the year, which seems wild. It’s been a crazy strange year so far, but I suppose we shouldn’t continue to be surprised at how quickly the time flies by. Before we know it, it’ll be Christmas and New Years again!

I got a little more reading done this month, which was encouraging. A mixture of fiction and nonfiction, work reads, buddy reads, and a few little stories just for fun, too. A nice variety this go round!

What about you? How was your month? I’d love to know what you’ve read lately! If there was something particularly good or a book you’re excited about, do tell! Leave a comment below to let me know what you’re reading this month!

What are you Currently Reading?

Finally, I’ve just started Flashback, the seventh book in Shannon Messenger’s Keeper of the Lost Cities series.

Flashback by Shannon Messenger - Reading

Some of you may recall that I spent the last few years rereading the first six books in KOTLC. I had started Flashback a few years ago, but after about two chapters realized I’d definitely forgotten some stuff. Rereading the first six books was a delight, don’t get me wrong, but I’m super excited to finally be able to continue the series and get to the part of the story I don’t already know!

What did you recently Finish Reading?

I just finished rereading The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton.

The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton

The first (and only) time I read this book was in seventh grade – twenty years ago. I remember bits and pieces of the story. “Stay gold, Ponyboy” always stuck with me, as well as Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” The emotions of the story stuck with me, but there were details I’d forgotten, so I was curious how the story would hold up reading it as an adult.

And, boy, I’ve got to say it still made me cry. I knew what was coming and it still got to me. There are such beautiful themes and portrayals of difficulty and overcoming in this short little book. I’m really glad I reread it and would definitely recommend this one to others.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next, I’m planning to read Midnight on the Moon by Mary Pope Osborne.

Midnight on the Moon by Mary Pope Osborne - Magic Tree House - Reading

Continuing my reread of the Magic Tree House books, I’m excited to read the ones I never did as a kid – and this is one of them! I’ve been reading them in order, so there have been a mixture of ones I’ve read several times and a few new-to-me ones that are really cool to go back to. Space feels different than the other stories in the series, so I’m curious to see how this adventure goes for Jack and Annie!

Favorite Read of the Month

My favorite read of the month was Jen Wilkin’s Bible study, Joshua: Every Good Promise Fulfilled.

Joshua: Every Good Promise Fulfilled by Jen Wilkin - Reading

I’ve loved every Jen Wilkin study I’ve done. She’s an excellent teacher and I always come away from the study with a deeper appreciation for and understanding of texts I’ve read countless times. Joshua was no different.

I’ve always liked Joshua well enough, so it wasn’t like I went into the study hoping to have some new love ignited for the book (as has happened in the past with books that weren’t always my favorite), but I was still surprised to find a depth of connection and pointing toward Christ that I never even fathomed Joshua held. It was a really beautiful study and I’m so thankful for it!
