Synopsis:

Can he afford to gamble with his heart?

Chris:

Staff Sergeant Christopher Daniel Brooking plays life safe. Order, determination, and hard work have served him well in the Air Force, and he’s about to take the next step toward his life-long dream: becoming an officer.

Unfortunately, the experimental officer training program that he’s been accepted to is in Las Vegas, the very epitome of the kind of life Chris detests the most. And even worse, the college student he’s been assigned as his “university guide” might be charming and adorable, but she’s also one of the most scatterbrained people he’s ever had the misfortune of working with. It will be a miracle if he can keep his carefully crafted routine intact while surviving the semester with her by his side.

The more he gets to know the misadventurous, bubbly Skylar, however, the more he begins to realize that there might be more than his strict adherence to rules on the line. He might be in danger of losing his heart as well.

Skylar:

Las Vegas native, Skylar, doesn’t mean to get into scrapes. Nor does she mean to leave her homework on the printer at home or lock her keys in her car or blurt out whatever she’s thinking. But it happens, and because of her unfortunate…tendencies, she’s about to flunk out of one of her foundational hospitality courses. So when the chance to earn extra credit by helping a new Air Force student around the city for a semester is offered, Skylar jumps at it with gusto.

She quickly realizes, however, that Chris Brooking is one of the handsomest, biggest squares Skylar has met. Never one to be intimidated by first impressions, though, she soldiers on and does her best to crack his shell to find the amazing person she’s sure is hiding beneath.

In her attempt to unlock his secrets, however, Skylar ends up discovering truths of her own that she’d rather not face. So when the broody airman offers to help, she must decide whether she can bear to let him see the pain and insecurities she tries so hard to hide…or push him out forever.

My Las Vegas Airman is the third book in the My Air Force Fairy Tale series, clean and wholesome standalone novels about life and love with military men. Read it today to find love, truth, and the magic of happily ever after.

My Thoughts:

Oh my my my. Fichter, at it again.

I am not much of a contemporary reader. I much prefer speculative fiction, mystery, and even sometimes a good historical romance. But, when Fichter drops a book, I read it. And by now I know she can do anything. This is the third military romance in her Air Force Fairy Tales, and I am hooked!!

The first book was a lot of fun and I particularly enjoyed seeing a teacher as the MC. The second one took place close to home for me, so I very much enjoyed reading a book set in a place I knew and loved so well. But this one. I could tell Fichter was waiting for this one. It felt like I could practically feel her enthusiasm through Skylar. It was like seeing Vegas through Fichter’s eyes. And I really, really enjoyed that. The insider touches and love of the city really brought life to the setting. But she also balanced the setting really well with the rest of the story. It was never overpowering.

It’s no secret I love, love, love Fichter’s characters. And this book was no different. Skylar was such a ball of fun! She leapt off the page! I really very much enjoyed her personality, her struggle with ADHD, her heart. All of it. I liked how joyful and bouncy she was, how kind and vulnerable. She was tough as nails! I loved the struggle she faced in growing her own wings and becoming her own woman. That was beautifully done. And I really loved how well the ADHD was threaded in. Tactfully, accurately, and completely integrated into who she was. Bravo, Fichter. Bravo. Chris also made me smile. I much more related to him than Skylar, and seeing his reaction to her and how he grew with her was really sweet. It was touching. Fichter draws in family and past to entangle our dear, beloved characters, as always. And each had their place. (Skylar’s sister needs a story all her own! Oh my goodness! And the grandmother!!! Best side characters award!!) ALSO, BRITTANY! THAT THANKSGIVING SCENE!!! <3 That stole my heart. It was so peaceful and so precious and so perfect. I loved it so so so much!

Fichter set out to write realistic military romances–with a fairy tale twist. The theme for this one, threaded lightly throughout, was The Princess and the Pea (one of my favorites!) and it was neat to see the nods here and there. I loved watching Skylar and Chris each face their pasts and look to their futures. The story had me hooked and I hardly put it down once I picked it up! Thank you for sharing this sweet little story with us!

The book is clean as they come. No foul language. No explicit romance. And no graphic violence. There are some complicated relationships and not so savory characters who make not so savory choices, but I think the book would be appropriate for 15/16 and up. Ish.

Brittany, I know it says “Book 3 of 3” but I am praying you do more!!!! I have come to love these so very much!!
