Thank you so much to the beautiful Bookmark Your Thoughts for the really cool tag. Again, I’m so sorry for the late response! If you don’t know Jenna and her lovely blog, go check her out!
This is such a unique tag! I don’t know who created it, but I love mixing reading and music together. I’ve written stories that are companions to songs and I usually have some kind of music going on in the background when I’m writing in general. The two go hand in hand very well! Well, here goes!
MY JAM
A SONG YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU’VE HEARD IT AND A BOOK THAT YOU’LL NEVER GET SICK OF
Truthfully, any LeAnn Rimes song will fit this description. I own almost every one of her albums and love her voice!! Remnants is a song from her most recent album and it’s just super groovy and catchy.
Song of the Sparrow is a favorite of mine. I recently reread it again and am never tired of it. Every time, it’s a heart-thumping read!
THROWBACK
A SONG THAT REMINDS YOU OF THE CRINGIEST TIME IN YOUR LIFE AND A BOOK YOU READ THAT YOU WOULDN’T LIKE NOW
Oh, man, there are lots of these! Let’s try to pick a good one! XD Boy bands are perfect for this. Let’s see…ooh, I loved What Makes You Beautiful and it definitely reminds me of that time of my life that everyone kind of winces at just a little.
Okay, this one kind of stumped me. I can’t really think of any books that I read when I was younger that I wouldn’t like now. However, I never finished Anne of Green Gables. I don’t know if I’d like it now or not, but it bored me to tears! It is one of two books I have ever not finished. I know it’s classic! Maybe someday I’ll get up the motivation to give it another shot, but honestly, I’m really not so inclined at the moment.
REPLAY
A RECENT SONG THAT YOU HAVE ON REPEAT AND A RECENT FAVORITE BOOK
I tell you what, if I could only ever listen to one song again, I might just pick this one. Every time I hear it, I hit the replay button for I kid you not hours!!! Real Love is beautiful! I love the R&B/Gospel style, the little bit of sass, the vocals, and the lyrics.
So, I stumbled upon Melanie Cellier’s Four Kingdoms books and have been a huge fan ever since! I’ve read all of her books (except the one that just came out!) and am a fan for life. The Princess Game is the fourth book in the series. Not only is The Sleeping Beauty my favorite childhood fairy tale, but Cellier’s retelling is phenomenal! It’s clever and inspiring and fun and intriguing all in one.
GETS ME
A SONG THAT IS LITERALLY ME AND A BOOK THAT IS ME IN BOOK FORM
I’ve always connected to this song! Maybe it’s the march to the beat of your own drum idea or maybe it’s the writer in me that connected to the analogy, but Unwritten is definitely me.
Hah, so I was going to put this one for the first category, but neither my sister nor I could think of a book that is just me. And, she said every time she sees this book, she thinks of me, so I guess we’re going with the classic, amazing, one and only Ella Enchanted! I will read this book til the day I die.
WUT
A WEIRD SONG THAT YOU LIKED ANYWAYS AND A UNIQUE BOOK THAT STUCK OUT TO YOU FOR SOME REASON
At first What Does the Fox Say just made me roll my eyes, but it’s come back to mind recently and I’ve always loved the ending of the song when the fox comes out and makes the whole song worth it.
This is one I’m currently reading. I acquired the book through the Dave Ramsey book club I’m a part of, which is a non-fiction book club. (Fun fact: the average millionaire reads one non-fiction book a month.) I’m not quite finished with this one yet, but unique is the exact word I’d use to describe it! The Traveler’s Gift is a fictional story about a man who loses everything…and then is given a chance to speak to great men and learn a few great lessons in wisdom. So, the book gets across it’s nonfiction ‘seven decisions that determine personal success,’ but it does it in such an engaging way!
LET’S GO
PICK YOUR BEST PUMP UP SONG AND A BOOK THAT INSPIRES YOU
I’m running through songs that I sing at the top of my lungs to, and my sister gives me this deadpan look and says, “It’s not a song you jam out to. It’s supposed to be a song that makes you want to run a marathon.” -_- I don’t ever want to run a marathon. Haha, so I finally filtered through a bazillion songs and landed on this one. Trusty LeAnn’s Sittin’ On Top of the World does always make me want to jump up, clean my house, and get stuff done!
You know, I almost put up another Dave Ramsey bookclub book (Max Lucado’s In the Grip of Grace, if you must know); he’s sent some truly inspirational reads, but instead, I’m going with New Birth. It a fictional book by an indie author, but this book inspires me in a different way. It’s inspiring to me because the message challenges me to become a better person individually, but it also inspires me as a writer. I’ll read this book and study it til the day I die. It’s excellently written with endearing characters and a soul-stirring plot. I have no higher praise than for this book (also the first in a series!) and I’d be honored if you’d go check it out!
CHILL
YOUR BEST CHILL OR RELAXING SONG AND A BOOK YOU’D CURL UP WITH ON A RAINY DAY
So, this isn’t exactly a relaxing song so much as it is a calming one. When I have a bad day or when I’m stressing out, I always turn to Billy Joel’s Vienna. My dad used to sing it to me and now it holds a very special place in my heart.
I could read The Goose Girl anytime anywhere. I love this book. It is an all-time favorite. I feel like it’s almost like comfort food–which is what I think when I hear “rainy day” and “curl up.” I’ve picked it up just to read some of my favorite passages before.
ADDICTING
A GUILTY PLEASURE SONG AND A LIGHT, TRASHY READ YOU CAN’T HELP BUT LOVE
I’m going to have to echo Jenna, DISNEY! I See the Light from Rapunzel, Love is an Open Door from Frozen (I happily own the whole soundtrack, so…), and I’ll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan are a few favorites!
Kay, well, I don’t do trashy reads! XD Haha, but the Faraway Castle books are light, clean reads and they’re so much fun! The Little Siren was the prequel and it has been my favorite so far, though the author is coming out with two more books that look like they’re going to be fantastic!
NOSTALGIA
A THROWBACK SONG YOU LOOK BACK ON FONDLY AND A BOOK YOU READ AND LOVED WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG
Oh goodness, a few come to mind for this one, but I’ll go with More Power to Ya cause it reminds me of when I was really little. My parents used to sing this song all the time, along with a lot of other Petra.
Hah, I read a lot and loved a lot when I was little. I liked series like the Boxcar Children, the Bailey School Kids, the Animorphs, and the Magic Tree House books. But The Westing Game is a stand alone novel, and I remember loving it when I was younger. I ought to reread it and see what I think now.
TAG! YOU’RE IT!
Man, this tag was so much more difficult than I thought it would be! It was downright hard, you guys! There were a so many songs and books I couldn’t fit in! I hope you enjoyed what you’ve read and that maybe you found a few new songs or books to check into!
How would you have answered? Is there anything that surprised you here or were they pretty easy guesses for you?
Spellbound Librarian, Honest Avacado, and Velvet Spade Reads, I’d love to know how you guys would answer this tag!

Ahem, recently reread WITH MEEEEEEE! xD
