Well, howdy, y’all! Yes, I know it’s a Tuesday, but this is my first Book Tag! Whoot whoot! (I have no idea how this works, so here goes nothin’!)
First of all, thanks to The Honest Avocado for the unconventional tag đ Check out the blog with the amazing logo, boatload of book reviews, and fun short stories!!
Now…on to the questions…
1. How many books do you usually read at once?
Used to be I’d answer one, hands down. But…as I’ve gotten older, I’ve kind of revised this a little bit. I’ll read two at once now, but there are limitations. I can read one fiction book and one nonfiction book, but not two fiction books. It messes with my OCD. I like order and that means finishing what I started, preferably in the order in which I started them.
I guess, technically, I’ve read up to four at a time, if you count the current devotional and my Bible. But I really don’t like to have more than one story or plot line to engage in, so I keep the fiction down to one book at a time.Â
2. If youâre reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch books?
I almost always go for the fiction book first. However, if I happen to be reading a non-fiction book at the same time, I’ll pick it up when I’m hungry for knowledge and not muddle brained so I can actually ingest what the non-fiction book says.
3. Do you ever switch bookmarks while youâre partway through a book?
I have an immense collection of bookmarks! I love them! Despite my rather large collection, I usually rotate between just a few bookmarks to actually use. (Some are more practical than others!) Every now and then I’ll pull out a different one from the collection. The weirdest thing is, though, I usually like to color code the bookmarks with the books. XD I choose bookmarks that remind me of the cover of the book I’m reading.Â
Kinda jumping off of The Honest Avacado here, Fun Fact: I can’t see 3D. Anything. Movies, bookmarks, etc. I don’t have depth-perception, so I can’t see it. đ My largest sub-collection of bookmarks? 3D bookmarks. Yup. When I get a new one, I always ask my family to describe it for me.Â
To actually answer the question, though, I don’t switch bookmarks unless I’ve misplaced the one I’ve chosen or unless I’ve started with a temporary bookmark, such as a scrap of paper.Â
4. Where do you keep the book(s) youâre currently reading?
On hand. Somewhere on my person, at almost all times. When I’m at work, the book is in my book bag before and after lunch. Many times you can find the book on my bedside table. I set it down pretty much anywhere that’s a clean surface. Must be clean! Sometimes this means a cupboard, sometimes just the counter, but usually it’s within reach.
5. What time of day do you spend the most time reading?
Hmm…well…I guess that depends on the day and the material. I try to begin my days with my Bible and any devotional I’m currently working on, and on weekends I can be found reading all day and at any point in the day. It’s kind of a free for all. But on workdays, I’ll read during my lunch and in the evenings when I get home.
6. How long do you typically read in one sitting?
Yeah, again, this one depends. I mean, weekends, I read nonstop for hours at a time. Even on weekday evenings, I read for hours at a time. I’ve binge-read days at a time and I’ve been known to devour more than one book in a single setting. But, on the other hand, like any other reader, I have my sparse seasons. I call them Reading Frenzies and Reading Slumps.
7. Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket on or off?
*gasp* *shudder* Off! Always off! I love looking at the cover and while I am not reading, that jacket is on that book! But while I’m reading? Off. Every time. I find that it annoys me when it slides up on the book. It also gets bent out of shape at the edges easily. And, lastly, I’m the weirdo that has to know what the actual cover of the book looks like. I’ve found some neat covers under those dust jackets!
8. What position do you mainly use to read?
Umm…any position? *shrug* I mean, I used to read upside down with my feet on the back of the couch and my head hanging over the cushion when I was a kid. But anymore, I just read either sitting in a chair, curled up, or legs outstretched. Sometimes I read lying on my side in bed.
9. Do you take the book youâre currently reading with you everywhere you go?
Yes. *foams at the mouth* I will not be caught dead without at least one book on hand. Sometimes two in case I finish the other. My philosophy is that I could be unexpectedly stuck somewhere at any moment for any reason for any amount of time. (i.e. doc office, car dies, tornado…it’s happened, y’all!) I refuse to be caught unawares and unprepared. IÂ will have a way to pass the time.Â
10. How often do you update your Goodreads progress on the book youâre currently reading?
I get a sick sort of satisfaction out of seeing the needle move on my Goodreads progress bar, especially on long reads. For instance, I’ve been reading my VeggieTales Bible straight through for over two years now and that progress bar has been my reward, my motivation to keep going, my joy. I love that thing and watching as the percentage changes.
That said, on regular books, I’ll update if I’m taking my sweet time reading the book, but sometimes I read the book too quickly to bother. It’s not a hard and fast rule, but I do keep up with it when I think of it.Â
Okay, well that’s it for my first tag! I hope I haven’t scared you all away by now. XD This is probably more than anyone ever needed to know about me. Thanks, again, to The Honest Avocado. This was fun!
As a sidenote: I totally stole the image from Google. Thanks to whomever it truly belongs!
I’d like to tag:
Love your answers! Especially about the dusk jacket. I feel like everyone has a really strong opinion on that one! haha đ
Haha I love looking underneath the dust jacket to see what is underneath! đ
Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back!
I never heard that version! XD
Yeah, I always heard the first half, but the second half totally completes the saying! I don’t remember where I first heard the ending.
Yeah it’s good! đ
Oh, I like your answers and I can relate to the book jacket. Only problem is, most of the paper backs I get now are all from the library, and they tape them on. Pretty annoying. I do try to peak just a little though. đ Haha, yes I used to read upside down too, well, I still kinda read in weird positions, but not as weird as I used to. At least, I donât get those looks from my mom anymore. LOL
Ooh, I hate when they do that! Drives me crazy! Hah, and I totally try to peek! My family got used to my crazy positions. đ€
