Coward’s Run
A Poem by Coralie
Run.
Run as fast as you can.
You can’t catch me.
I’m reality.
Grin.
Grin to hide the lies.
But a mirror’s reflection
Shows your true complexion.
Throw a fit.
Shatter glass.
But a thousand shards
Only magnify the demons in your ward.
You abandoned the truth
For an hour’s illusion.
When I cut to the roots,
Then we’ll see your true fruits.
How dare you accuse!
Wallow in self-pity.
There is no excuse.
You’ve hung your own noose.
To forget your pain
The price you pay
Is to forget your family.
Your loss is their gain.
Your word you’ve broken.
My trust you’ve lost.
Your daughter is gone.
She must move on.
Drink.
Drink until the night ends.
For when you awake,
It will be far too late.
