The Locket’s Revenge by L. E. Richmond
YA Fantasy. 256 Pages. 4 Stars

Synopsis:
A Trinket Could Unleash a Tempest
Locklyn Adair thought that finding the Sea Enchantress would lift her family’s curse. But the ramifications of her desire for a tail reach further than she could ever have dreamed. Now the entire Undersea Realm is in peril, as Circe, armed with the locket capable of controlling the Loch Ness monster, journeys to the North Sea in pursuit of revenge.
Darin Aalto’s specialty is tracking down treasure. When it looks as though a magical locket has fallen into evil hands, he joins Locklyn and her crew on an expedition to recover it, hoping to find a key to his past identity along the way. Despite having no memory of the Mermaid leading the quest, he wonders if she was more than a friend all along.
As a vengeful enchantress, fiery monster, and impending war threaten the Undersea Realm, Locklyn and Darin must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stop the locket’s revenge.
My Review:
Oh man, oh man! It’s finally here! The conclusion to the duology! How I wished there were more in the series.
Y’all know that cliffhanger on the last book was killer. I’ve been dying to get my paws on this one. It took a little longer than I’d have liked, but such is life sometimes.
Richmond has created an undersea adventure packed with action, intrigue, and romance. It seemed something new was coming at every turn. I loved that she kept me guessing about what was next. Of course, we knew the general vicinity we were headed toward: stop the sea witch from letting out the big giant sea monster that would destroy all the underwater realm. But this poor team of heroes and do-gooders bumped into quite the series of obstacles.
Speaking of, the cast of characters really makes this book so much fun. The dynamics between each of them are strong and create a variety I enjoyed as a reader. I will say, I did forget a fair amount from the first book so I struggled with remembering some of the side characters a little as I read. I’d suggest reading the two closer together than I did (and not just because of the cliff hanger). I think I would have benefitted from a more recent memory of the first book.
But the world is fascinating (says the mermaid aficionado). I loved getting to see the other kingdoms, the wilderness, and the creatures. The different cultures were so well done. And Richmond doesn’t pull punches with the plot. Some stuff went down I was not quite prepared for! I also definitely enjoyed some of the newer characters as well as the returning ones.
And of course, we left book 1 off with a certain merman having lost his memory. It was interesting to see how that impacted his character and the way he behaved with the others. We also have the question of which romantic ships are gonna go which way. I’m satisfied to say that I got my way on multiple counts XD
All in all, a lovely conclusion to the set!
Content: some fantasy violence, clean romance, no foul language. Suitable for teens.
