Take Back Your Time by Christy Wright

Nonfiction. 240 Pages. 5 Stars

Synopsis:

It’s not about doing more.

IT’S ABOUT DOING WHAT MATTERS.

As a busy mom with three young kids and a career, #1 national bestselling author Christy Wright knows what it’s like to try to do it all and be stretched too thin. After years of running on empty, she realized she had to do something different. It wasn’t just a matter of saying no to a few things. She had to figure out why she felt overwhelmed, overcommitted, and out of balance.

Here’s what she discovered: Life balance isn’t something you do. It’s something you feel. The great news is you can feel balanced — even in your busy life.

In Take Back Your Time, Christy redefines what balance is and reveals the clear path to actually achieve it. You’ll learn how to:

Identify what balance looks like in your unique situation and season.
Find confidence in the choices that are right for you.
Feel peace even during chaotic times.
Learn how to be present for your life and actually enjoy it!
You weren’t created to live busy and burnt out, unhappy and unfulfilled. You shouldn’t be haunted by some elusive idea of balancing it all. There’s more for you right now. Today. And it starts with taking back your time the guilt-free way.

My Review:

I love Christy’s voice and her teaching style. Her heart shines through so clearly. She balances encouragement and education both so well.

I’ve heard her speak on this topic in the past, which is what led me to buy the book. We live in a culture of business. Of always doing. Go go go and never stopping. We’ve lost the art of true, bone-deep rest. We let everyone else crowd our calendar in the name of kindness and then beat ourselves up when we fall short of our own impossible expectations and fail to make time for the things we love.

It can feel icky or wrong to set clear, healthy boundaries or selfish to dedicate time to self-care, rest, or even just the things we want to do. But I believe we were each created with a God-given purpose, to do work that we will not only be good at, but love. And by choosing to prioritize our time to make time for those things, we honor God. Stewarding our time rightly is how we live out the lives God calls us to.

Christy infuses such hope into a dreary, drained space. We give and give and give and never stop to refill ourselves. And Christy does a fabulous job of explaining not only why it’s important to shift our mindsets around time management, balance, priorities, etc. but she shows us how to do it! The book is so well-organized, and each chapter comes with journal questions and tangible actions steps.

There’s also a free downloadable workbook that walks through each of those steps to walk you through taking the time to express what things are important to you, which things drain you, what things you need to focus on in this season, how to make the changes in a realistic, doable way, and why.

The beauty of this format is that Christy has designed it specifically to be motivating, encouraging, practical, and something you can do over and over again, no matter how your seasons change.

I cannot more highly recommend this book. I wish I could give it out to everyone and watch our culture bloom again. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we all started living healthy lives pursuing what we love full rested and made time for the most important things? I don’t know about you, but I’m starting with me.
