Synopsis:
Have you ever thought about praying for your future husband?
Will it make a difference?
There’s only one way to find out…
From when we were small girls, most of us dream of “The One,” our future husband. We think about what it would be like to be a bride. We wonder who that special guy is and when we’ll find him. The great news is that what you do now can make a difference in your life and the life of your future husband!
Authors and good friends Robin Jones Gunn (Christy Miller series) and Tricia Goyer (author and former teen mom) believe God answers women’s prayers for husbands—even husbands they may not meet for years. They invite young women to pray boldly for their future mate … while also asking God to prepare their own hearts.
In Praying for Your Future Husband, Robin and Tricia share their two vastly different experiences, including the things they did right and the mistakes they made on the path to meeting and marrying their husbands. Each chapter includes helpful Bible verses, prayers, and practical application, along with true stories of women who prayed for a husband and how God answered in remarkable ways.
God has a beautiful romance prepared for you. Prayer is the key to unlocking the love story … with your future husband and with God, the lover of your soul.
My Review:
The heart behind this book is so sweet. I love the way both Robin and Tricia have come together to share their stories and their wisdom.
The concept of praying for a future husband isn’t new to me. My grandmother charged me with it when I was a preteen. And this isn’t the first book I’ve read that discusses the topic either. But I really enjoyed the focus on growing our own hearts and walking closer to Christ ourselves. It’s encouraging to see that the prayers in the book are two-fold, not just for a future spouse, but also for the one praying.
And the stories of encouragement that Robin and Tricia have encountered in the lives of others is a beautiful touch. I love how each chapter had a specific focus and theme and how each story wove together with the chapter. I also got super invested in the stories unfolding for Tricia and Robin of their own personal experiences! It was almost like reading a novel at some points where I just wanted to know what happened next! But always pointed with purpose and intentionality to the wisdom of the chapter itself.
Each chapter is layered with a thread of story from one of the authors themselves, a heart talk, focus for prayer (for both you and your future hubby), an encouraging story or snippet from some other woman one of the authors have encountered, scripture, a small journaling section, and discussion questions (either for you to consider and journal solo or with a group if you’d like!).
This is a beautiful resource for young teen girls and up to strengthen your walk with Christ, be bolstered with encouragement and hope, and to challenge yourself to develop a deeper prayer life.
Content: I’d say the book is appropriate for 12+ most likely, but there are a few deeper topics touched upon like bad influences, abortion, and guys who don’t always have your best at heart. Though the topics are touched with delicacy and nothing is graphic or explicit, it maybe a book to read with your daughter (or beforehand) if you want to make sure it would fit with your personal line for the younger girls.
