Synopsis:

What if you not only fell back through time…but fell in love, too?

Gabi knows she’s left her heart in the fourteenth century, and she persuades Lia to help her to return, even though they know doing so will risk their very lives. When they arrive, months have passed, and all of Siena longs to celebrate the heroines who turned the tide in the battle against Florence–while their enemies will go to great lengths to see them dead.

Even in the midst of the battles, Gabi is increasingly drawn to Marcello, just as Lia’s is to Luca. In medieval Italy, the sisters must discover things inside themselves that they couldn’t seem to find in the present–connection with their mom, courage within, and the understanding that a life well lived often means encountering sacrifice. But in a world long past, many things still keep Gabi from giving Marcello her heart forever…and one thing in particular calls all three of the Betarrinis home.

My Review:

Whelp, that’s it folks. I’m sunk. Buying book three…uhh…now!! This is book 2 of the River of Time series by Lisa Bergren. (Still haven’t figured out the title…but who cares?!)

The sequel was packed with just as much danger and intrigue as the previous book, and actually drew me in even more! Truly, I think I enjoyed this ride more than the first, but perhaps just because everything is already set in motion and I have a solid footing in the plot, the characters, and the world. I’m already dying for book 3. Of course, it doesn’t help that I thought I had more chapters to read and then, nope fooled ya…extras. I swear, I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed to see the extra content, which I normally love.

Just as before, the characters positively charming (and some really sweet minor characters that have me hoping against hope that I’ll see again!), the world fan-freaking-tastic (makes me want to go there! I loved the little bit of Italy I’ve seen and I definitely want more!), and the plot as engrossing as ever before. I’m hanging on a thread here! Two-day shipping better hurry up!

Minor violence, tactfully handled. Super-sweet romance, nothing worse than a few stolen kisses (medieval peeps were pretty chill XD). And no swearing. There was a scene where some…lustful implications were made, but it was brief and not detailed in any way whatsoever, again, very tactfully handled.
